We have vertical blinds made of hard plastic. The sun shining on them has made them quite brittle and now a number of them have snapped at the top where they have the clip that joins the bracket. Anyone have any advice/knowledge/expertise on how we can repair these? We cannot replace them, as we live in a rented property
Tell your landlord about it and (s)he should replace them. They’re really not worth fixing

Those vertical blinds are made of PVC which emits toxic fumes when the sun heats them up. Take them down and let the landlord know that you need something different.

If they were like that when you moved in. Then the landlord should replace them for free. That’s the way we handle things in our apartment complex. Tell him that’s its worth spending a few extra bucks to keep you happy. That way you will not want to move when your lease is up.

Depending on the pattern, replacing the broken ones could be as little as a couple bucks per vane.
BUT, there is a couple of other options,….that will let yu have your privacy back without having to have your landlord involved.
1. Turn the vane upside down and put a hole on the other end.
2. Go to a window decor place and ask to buy the plastic piece that usually goes at the top of FABRIC verticals. Superglue that piece to the top of the broken vane. No one will see your repairs once it’s back up in the track. $.25 to $1.00 each
2a. Go to a window decor place and ask to buy a special metal clip that will do the same thing as the plastic piece I just told you about. $.50 – $3.00 each.
